If you’re looking for a TV for your shower, you’ve probably already figured out that most TVs aren’t built for it. Here’s what actually works, and what to look for.
The TV Has to Be Built for a Shower
A shower is one of the most demanding environments you can put a television into. Steam and water contact are constant, not occasional. The TV you install needs to be splash and steam proof.
Our shower TVs are IPX4-certified, which means they’ve been tested and formally certified splash and steam proof. Every gap in the steel frame of our televisions is hand-sealed with silicone during assembly. The screens themselves are real glass, not plastic. Splash them all you want. They can take it.
How They Install
The best way to install a shower TV is flush into the wall. If the TV sits inside the wall cavity with the screen flush with the tile surface, no edges will protrude into the shower. This ensures that you won’t bang into the TV while showering, and you won’t lose any of your valuable shower space. This also eliminates locations for water to pool or collect after you’re done in the shower.
And as an added benefit, our in-wall shower TVs look like they simply belong there.
What Size Makes Sense in a Shower?
Shower viewing distances are short, typically four to six feet from the screen, or even tighter. At that range, a smaller screen delivers a more comfortable picture than a larger one.
A 24″ model is the right starting point for most shower installations. It’s sized for close-range viewing, fits naturally into a smaller tile wall without dominating the space, and is the most practical choice for the majority of walk-in shower configurations.
For larger wet rooms or spa environments with more space and longer viewing distances, a 32″ model is worth considering.
Where to Install Your TV in the Shower
Install the TV on the wall you’re naturally facing when you’re standing in the shower. Eye level for your standing position is the right height, typically centered around 60 to 65 inches from the floor.
If you’re more likely to watch your TV from a bench, consider where your eye line lands when you’re seated and plan the height around that. The rule is the same either way: eye level for the position you’ll actually be in when you’re watching.
It’s also worth keeping the TV away from the direct path of the shower head where you can. IPX4 certification covers splashing and steam from any direction, but it’s hard to watch TV if the screen is always wet.
Finish Options
Our shower TVs come in black and white frames, and our Magic Mirror finish. White is available in 24″. Black is available in 24″ and 32″. Magic Mirror is available all the way up to 75″.
All are clean, minimal, and integrate naturally into tile and wall finishes. Pick whichever fits the design of your shower.
